MS 2009 FIRST PRESS RELEASE

Although, today, it may seem that summer is several light years away from us, its fortunately not true. Festivals are undoubtedly a part of summer and one of most striking is an already traditional event called Mighty Sounds.

Mighty Sounds doesnt belong to events which serve you the traditional fish and chips spiced up by some big foreign name. It tries to be a festival where high quality foreign performers get wide space and Czech bands must try hard to keep their place in the sun. On seven stages will perform almost 150 bands, around 100 djs, large number of theatre groups and a colourful palette of performens and workshops

Preparations for the 5. jubilee year are running and confirmed bands appear every Sunday evening in short miniprofiles on the festival web. Although is Mighty Sounds from a big part about ska, groups playing punkrock, hardcore, rock’n’roll, reggae, dancehall, rockabilly, soul, but also metal and hip hop have always since the beginning been an essential part of the festival dramaturgy. Three dj stages enrich the programme with drum'n'bass, breakbeat, jungle etc.

Like every year, the festival will take place on meadows around the South Bohemian village OLší u Tábora on July 17-19 . In the previous year got the festival area a significant “facelift“, it was extended by about a quarter by “joining“ one more meadow and adding one large carpark.

Among already confirmed bands are a British punkrock legend Buzzcocks, Swedish rock'n'roll stars Backyard Babies or American dirty reggae formation The Aggrolites. British Islands which are always strongly represented on MS are home of punkrockers Deadline, from the country of cheese and high guality watches will drive a rockabilly trio The Peacocks, South of Europe will represent Italian ska rebels Talco and their Spanish colleagues La Gossa Sorda. Lovers of unusual experience will definitely a appreciate punkrock cabaret The World/Inferno Friendship Society or American psychobilly matadors Koffin Kats. Let's mention some other interesting names which are in the first wave of confirmed bands: Swedish 2tone legend Liberator, Dutch ska star Mr. Review, rock'n'roll massacre Peter Pan Speedrock and certainly also a British-Dutch legend Mark Foggo's Skasters.

Czechoslovakian music scene will be represented by fixed stars as Polemic, Sto Zvířat, Fast Food Orchestra, Prague Ska Conspiracy , NVÚ, Totální nasazení and many more.
